Have you ever wondered what happens to the millions of plastic bottles used every day? In this video, you will follow the scenarios that your water bottle can possibly encounter after it is tossed away.
As we saw in the video, the first bottle, like the majority, ends up in a landfill. From there, its toxic components are transported to the soil, groundwater, and streams poisoning the ecosystem and harming wildlife.
The second bottle reaches a stream and is transported into the ocean, where it accumulates in large plastic-filled currents, also called gyres. There, it can be eaten by, or cause entanglement to marine species.
Only the third bottle gets lucky and is appropriately disposed of, recycled, and transformed into a new product ready to be used again. Unfortunately, only 9% of all plastics produced since 1950 were recycled.
But is that it?
